- Add 2 cups urad dal to a large bowl and wash it well rubbing with your hand. Rinse it well at least 3 to 4 times & drain the water..
- Soak the urad dal in enough water for at least 3-4 hours. drain all the water from soaked dal. Grind urad dal to smooth paste using very little water..
- Add cumin seeds, green chilli, ginger, black peper and chopped dry coconut to the batter. Mix it very well continuously about 5 minutes. add 1 tbsp of rice flour and mix well. rice flour is added to make it crispy..
- Heat the oil in a frying pan in medium flame. Now take tea strainer and wet it with water and wet your hands take a ball of dough. Put it on the strainer. And make the hole in the center..
- Now drop it in the hot oil.Repeat the same for each vada dip back of the strainer in water and take ball of dough and makes vadas shape..
- Deep-fry on a medium flame till it turns golden brown in colour from both the sides..
- Repeat with the remaining batter to make more medu vadas. Drain on an absorbent paper..
- Serve the medu vada immediately with sambhar and coconut chutney..
